Lagos files 111 charges against Synagogue, over collapsed church building

Lagos files 111 charges against
Synagogue, others
The Lagos State Government has filed a 111-count
charge against the Registered Trustees of the Synagogue
Church of All Nations and the engineers that allegedly
constructed a building that collapsed and killed 116 people,
mostly South Africans, on September 12 last year.
The Monday arraignment of the five defendants was,
however, adjourned till December 11 by Justice Lawal-
Akapo of a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, due to
the state’s inability to serve three of the defendants.
The charges border on their alleged failure to obtain
approval for the collapsed building contrary to Section 41
of the Urban and Regional Planning Laws of Lagos State
and involuntary manslaughter contrary to Section 222 of
the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
The Registered Trustees of Synagogue comprises some
leaders of the church, but only one member of the church
Trustees was present at Monday’s proceedings. He
represented the other Trustees.
Synagogue founder, Prophet T.B. Joshua, was not named
as a party to this suit.
A Coroner Inquest set up by Lagos State and presided
over by Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, ruled on August 7
that Synagogue and its contractors were essentially
negligent in the collapse of the six-storey guesthouse.
The defendants in the suit are – the Registered Trustees
of Synagogue Church of All Nations, Hardrock
Construction and Engineering Company, Jadny Trust
Limited, Oladele Ogundeji and Akingbola Fatiregun.

Boko Haram Kills 4, Abducts Unspecified Number of Girls Near Army Chief’s Village

At least four persons were killed and an unspecified number of teenage girls abducted in Bam Village, about seven kilometers away from Buratai village, the home town of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, on Sunday during an attack by the
terrorist group, Boko Haram.
A resident of the area who fled to
Miringa town for safety, Abubakar Ali,

told our correspondent on phone on
Sunday evening that the insurgents
invaded his village about 3:30am and
set ablaze the whole village.
He alleged that they killed four persons and later left with some of the yet to be married
teenage girls.
He lamented that the insurgents
operated in the village till about 5am and even had the audacity to "separate teenage girls from married women, set
ablaze the whole village and left with the choice girls unchallenged."
He said it was unfortunate that "these hoodlums always attacked our villages unchallenged. I am calling on General
Buratai to do something about this forthe soldiers seem to be doing little to checkmate them here.
"We have been telling the soldiers that
the Boko Haram are in some villages around here but they only go to Mangari a few kilometres away from
Buratai and shoot in the air and come back. It seems the soldiers are afraid to
confront them."
In a related development, some BoSundayam terrorists also attacked and
burnt down Gajiganna village in
Magumeri local government area of
Borno state, killing three persons

Breaking News: 3,500 Male Sex Workers Identified In Abuja

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA)
yesterday revealed that about 3,500 male sex workers have
been identified in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Also worrisome is the fact that over 60 per cent of the men

were married, the agency added.
NACA’s Director-General, Prof. John Idoko, spoke at the
agency’s maiden lecture marking this year’s World AIDS
Day with the theme:Strategies for Ending AIDS in Nigeria by
2030.
Idoko said the agency was working on some areas identified
as hotspots for male sex workers to end the practice adding
that their action could expose their spouses to the
transmission of Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus (HIV).

IBRAHIM Babangida, I will vote for an Igbo president in 2019.

IBRAHIM Babangida, former military president, says he is
ready to vote for an Igbo president in 2019.
In a chat with The Interview, a magazine focused on leading
professionals and politicians, IBB, as he is fondly called,
described the agitation for Biafra republic as a distraction.
“We do not need this distraction now,” he was quoted
as
saying, adding that, “I will vote for an Igbo president in
2019, if I find one.”
According to Azu Ishiekwene, managing director of The
Interview, the retired general also spoke on his relationship
With President MuhammaduBuhari, Vasta Mamman, IBB’s
childhood friend who was
executed on his orders, and Sani Abacha, former military
ruler.
Ishiekwene said the magazine, will be out next week.
Babangida was also said to have revealed how Orji Uzor Kalu,
former governor of Abia state, arranged a meeting between
him and Buhari in 2006.
“One thing you guys in the media want is for us to be
exchanging words with each other each time we see,” he
reportedly said.
Ishiekwene added that “Babangida spoke on the two ‘most
traumatic’ coups during his eight-year regime – the Mamman
Vatsa and Gideon Orkar coups – revealing, for the first time,
a meeting he had with Vatsa before his trial began.
“The interview also covered Dele Giwa and the C130 Hercules
plane crash in Ejigbo, which left 150 military officers dead.”
A statement issued by Ishiekwene, revealed that Femi Falana,
notable human rights lawyer, also spoke with The Interview.
“In the same edition, frontline lawyer and Senior Advocate
of Nigeria, Femi Falana, spoke on why he was dropped from
the ministerial list, while the new President of Mauritius,
Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, gave African leaders some homework
to do,” the statement read.
“The edition also features interviews with leading South
African Editor-In-Chief of City Press, Ferial Haffajee;
young prodigy and Bill Gates scholar at Oxford, Ify Aniebo;
and the D-G of NIMASA, Haruna Baba Jauro, with an
extended version of Interview

The son of former Nigerian military head of state Yakubu Gowon is due to return to Nigeria after spending 22 years in a US prison

The son of former Nigerian military head of state Yakubu
Gowon is due to return to Nigeria after spending 22 years
in a US prison after being convicted on drug-related
charges. It is believed Musa Gowon was released from the
Taft Correctional Facility Bakersfield, California, after US
President Barack Obama granted him pardon earlier in
November.
The Igbo Mandate Congress (IMC)- which advocates for the
Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria - has said it was arranging a
welcome ceremony. The date of Gowon's arrival has not yet
been disclosed. He is currently being held at a deportation
centre in the US.
Who is Musa Gowon?
According to the IMC, Gowon was born in 1969 after his
father had started a relationship with an Igbo woman, late
Edith Ike-Okongwu.
The relationship allegedly ended during the Nigerian civil
war (1967-1970) - also known as the Biafran war - as
Okongwu disagreed with Yakubu Gowon - then head of
state - over the role of the Nigerian army in the war. The
army has been accused of deliberately bombing Biafran
civilians and imposing a blockade that resulted in the death
of hundreds of thousands of civilians due to lack of food
and medicine.

After the war, Okongwu emigrated with her son to the US.
She later returned to Nigeria, while Musa remained in the US
where he joined a Colombian drug cartel. He was arrested
and sentenced to 40 years in jail in 1992, at the age of 23.
Musa was said to have lived a flamboyant lifestyle until he
was arrested on November 18, 1992 aged 23, prosecuted and
given 40-year jail sentence the following year.
U.S. President Obama last month granted him state pardon
after he had spent 22 years in prison. He is now in the
custody of U.S. Immigration booked for deportation to
Nigeria anytime from now
IMC thanked Obama for the pardon: "Igbo Mandate
Congress also expresses gratitude to the United States
President Barrack Obama for the pardon granted Musa
Ngonadi Gowon in the spirit of reconciliation and demand
good treatment of this man born under the contradictions
of love, hate and an unnecessary civil war."

Gowon created a Facebook account in 2013 where he
routinely wrote messages thanking family and friends for
his support. in March 2015, he wrote: "To all my family and
friends. I recently read all your lovely birthday messages
to me, and I was overjoyed at the beautiful and kind words
of encouragement sent to me. I hear you all and
unfortunately I can't respond directly to everyone... But in
due time we shall all see again, by the grace of God. Thank
you once more for the love and support and I hold you all in
a special part of my heart. God bless."
After being overthrown in 1975, Gowon's father moved to
the UK, where he obtained a PhD at Warwick University in
1983. He returned to Nigeria that same year after being
pardoned by the then president Shehu Shagari for his
alleged role in the 1976 coup d'etat in Nigeria. Gowon's
father still lives in

If Buhari Wants to Be a Pharaoh, He Will Find a Moses In Me – Asari Dokubo

Asari Dokubo has always loved being in the news. He
has spoken severally on national issues and he has
also threatened fire and brimstone on several
occasions. After the general elections which the APC
and President Buhari won, Asari took to his Facebook

page where he posted ” Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim
your Buhari does not have the power to send any
body to prison….get that into your piggy skull and
nobody is afraid of him….We are waiting for
him….following the example of GEAJ does not make us
cowards….If he Buhari wants to be a Pharaoh….then
he will find a Moses in me.”
Asari Dokubo has identified with the current agitation
by Nnamdi Kanu and the Indiginous People of Biafria
(IPOB). According to Dokubo, Ijaws are an integral
part of Biafra. He appears not to want to be outdone
by this new wave led by Mr Nnamdi Kanu.
How will President Buhari’s administration handle
this double thronged attack? We may even be correct
to actually call it a tripple pronged attack if we add
the new ‘Odua Radio’ saga into the mix.
People called and still call Asari Dokubo a noise
maker. People are calling Nnamdi Kanu a noise
maker. Funny enough, President Buhari also called
his ministers noise makers. Is Nigeria safe with all
these noise makers? Is it not time to retrace our steps
and restructure this country so as to find lasting
peace?
Please President Buhari, we do not have to wait until
things have gone too far. Please swallow your pride
and dialogue with these interest groups. You are
ready to dialogue with a faceless Boko Haram sect,
why not this group of agitators whose faces and
demands are well known?
A word they say is enough for the wise.

Photos: EFCC arrests ‘Pastor’ For N200m fraud

Press statement from EFCC...
The Economy and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,
has arrested one Jonathan Ibinabo Alatoru, a self-
acclaimed pastor and Chief Executive Officer, CEO,
Chemtronics Nigeria Limited, for conspiracy, forgery
and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of
N200 million. The suspect, who
had earlier jumped the
administrative bail granted him by the Commission,
was arrested by operatives of EFCC in a sting
operation on Thursday, November 26, 2015, in Abuja.
The 55-year-old suspect had been awarded a contract
by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Abuja for the
construction of a skill acquisition centre at Igualeba,
Orhiomwon LGA, in Edo State, to the tune of
N1.7billion. The contract, which was supposed to be
completed within a year, was, however, terminated in
2011 when he could not complete the structure 18
months after. However, the suspect allegedly
approached Sterling Bank Plc with some documents
purported to have emanated from the Ministry to
secure a N200 million bank facility. In fulfillment of
the requirements to obtain the bank facility, the
suspect allegedly presented both the Certificate of
Occupancy, C of O, of a property located in the
G.R.A., Ikeja area of Lagos and another mortgage
agreement letter as collateral in 2012. The
investigation, however, revealed that both documents
belong to the late Vice-Admiral Babatunde Elegbede,
a former military Governor of Cross Rivers State, who
died in 1994. According to the complainant, the
suspect also allegedly presented a forged domiciliation
payment letter, stating that the proceeds of the
contract should be remitted to the bank for the
servicing of the loan. It was also discovered that the
suspect allegedly connived with one Ndubuisi Egbe
Unah, who is currently facing trial before a Federal
High Court, Abuja, and some staff of the bank to
perpetrate the alleged fraud. The suspect will soon be
charged to court. Wilson Uwujaren Head, Media &

Mystery over who bombed Turkish convoy allegedly carrying weapons to militants in Syria

A Turkish convoy, which according to some reports was transporting weapons to terrorist organizations, has been hit by apparent airstrikes in northwestern Syria.
Footage released online by the Istanbul-based Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) shows plumes of smoke from the burning trucks and people running
about in panic. At least 20 trucks were engulfed in flames.
The mission, however, wasn’t sponsored or organized by the IHH, the group said. No organization has as yet
Uconfirmed that the convoy belonged to them.
"Our teams helped to extinguish the fire... The trucks do not belong to us and there is no information on who bombed them," Mustafa Özbek, an official from İHH, told Reuters. At least seven people were killed and 10 injured in the incident, according to the Turkish Anadolu agency.
The trucks were reportedly heading to the town of Azaz in northwestern Syria.
Since the news emerged, media has been furiously speculating about who was behind the attack, what
the trucks were transporting, what the convoy’s humanitarian mission was, or maybe it was carrying a more sinister load.
One of the aid workers who survived the incident said the trucks had been deliberately targeted, Reuters
reported.
The nature of the ‘humanitarian aid’ is also in question. Turkish media and the IHH say the trucks were transporting humanitarian aid to refugees in
Azaz.
However, the Turkish Cumhuriyet newspaper cited sources close to the Syrian government saying the
convoy was delivering weapons to terrorist
organizations.
The Hawar news agency reported that Turkey
repeatedly sent convoys with arms to the Al-Nusra
Front and other terrorist organizations under the
guise of humanitarian aid.
Reports on Twitter went further – they identified the
arms as allegedly “Docka machine guns” and “small
arms with ammunitions.”
In the wake of the recent downing of a Russian Air
Force bomber over Syria by Turkish fighter jets, some
reports suggested the Russians were “avenging” the
pilot’s death. Many media outlets thought it was the
work of Vladimir Putin.
Anadolu cited ‘Syrian opposition sources,’ who
claimed that Russian jets attacked the convoy.
Other sources suggested the airstrikes were carried
out by Syrians, without specifying whether it was
members of the Syrian Army loyal to President
Bashar Assad, or one of the various Syrian rebel
groups.
Neither Turkish, nor Russian authorities have yet
commented on the incident. However, before the Azaz
incident Tayyip Erdogan commented on an event that
took place in 2013, when a Turkish security service
convoy was stopped on the way to the Bayırbucak
region in northwestern Syria. The Turkish president
said: “If there were any weapons, then what? And if
there weren't, what would change?”

Whoever says 105 soldiers were not killed is a compound fool, village idiot – Fani-kayode

 Dicksonreal

Former Minister of Aviation and a chieftain of the
Peoples Democratic Party, Olufemi Fani-Kayode, has
launched another attack on President Muhammadu
Buhari, the Minister of Defence, Rtd Brig. Gen.
Mansur Mohammed ffff5 Ali and the Chief of Army

Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai over the alleged
‘secret burial’ of soldiers reportedly killed by Boko
Haram insurgents.
The media was recently awash with news of the
alleged abduction and killing of 105 soldiers in
northeastern part of the country.
However, the military authority had since debunked
the story, saying that none of its men was missing.
Reacting to the development via his Twitter handle
on Wednesday, Fani who is known for his
controversial tweets challenged the government to
speak up on the whereabouts of the soldiers if they
were still alive.
He tweeted, “This is wickedness of the highest order
and Pres. Buhari, his Chief of Army Staff and his
Min. of Defence should bury their heads in shame.
“I am outraged by the fact that a soldier will
sacrifice his life for his country yet the citizens of
that country don’t even appreciate it.
“Anyone that buys the lie and propaganda that the
105 soldiers never died and that they are still alive
is a compound fool or village idiot.
“Will the military also deny the fact that 2 days ago
34 of our soldiers were killed by BH. These boys died
for their country. Why deny them?
“All we want from the military is the truth. If 105
were not killed then how many were killed?”

Is Nigeria a Zoo,

Chimelum Anizoba

Is Nigeria a Zoo? One of the allegations against Nnamdi Kanu
which has led to his continued incarceration by Nigeria government is that he calls Nigeria a Zoo and those who live
in her animals. To address this issue, it is important to allow
Nigeria define itself in view of this assertion. But before
Nigeria helps us define itself, it is also important to note
that in the album "Gang Affiliated", by Gospel Gangstaz,
part of the lyrics of the song says: " I'm in a zoo called
America, Trapped in a cage called the hood". Those who
called America zoo were not arrested or jailed. Why? The

country practices freedom of speech and understands that
the use of zoo is denotative and allegorical. For Nigeria,
ignorance is a virtue! What is a Zoo? The Free Dictionary
defines zoo as: 1. A park or an institution in which living
animals are kept and usually exhibited to the public. 2. A
place or situation marked by confusion or disorder: The bus
station is a zoo on Fridays. 3. A place, activity, or group
marked by chaos or unrestrained behavior. Please consider
the definitions in number 2 and 3. In all truth and honesty,
can one say Nigeria is a zoo? Let Nigeria answer! Is Nigeria
not marked by disorder and confusion? Is the situation in
Nigeria not marked by lawlessness? Do we not see
unrestrained animalistic behaviours? Is there no impunity in
Nigeria that the rich becomes richer and the poor becomes
poorer? Can we pretend that there is no confusion in the
land from leaders to the led? Take for instance, Nigeria's
law stipulates that an arrested suspect is presumed innocent
and should be charged to court within 48 hours of arrest, but
as a country that is confused and lawless; whose leaders
have no respect for the law and are lawless, Nnamdi Kanu
had been arrested and kept in terrible conditions contrary to
the law of the land. Which country does a thing like this if not a
zoo? Nigeria's leaders behave unrestrained. It is among
animals that you see unrestrained behaviours and impunity in
high places. A court of competent jurisdiction had granted
him bail yet he has not been released. This is the sort of
thing you can see in a zoo and among animals, the use of
brute and illegal force against people not minding what the
law says. The strong can deal with the weak and get away
with it as it happens in animal Kingdom, zoo. Nigeria is
confirmng and proving Nnamdi Kanu true every other day in
his submissions. Which country on earth has been dubbed as
a place where nothing works? Nigeria and that makes her a
qualified zoo! No electricity. No pipe borne water. No good
road. No effective transport systems. No good hospitals. No
world class infrastructure. Yet billions of dollars are voted
for all these and siphoned! The situation in Nigeria is
Zoological. Which one country on earth is a major oil producer
but the majority of her citizens wallow in abject poverty?
Nigeria and that makes her a zoo! Which one country on
earth will a coupist who destroyed democracy come back 30
years later and win a democratic election, reaping from what
he destroyed? Nigeria and that makes her a zoo? Which one
country hates her youths and makes no provision for their
future? Nigeria and that makes her a zoo! Which one country
do youths flee to other countries that it suppose to be better
than in millions in search of greener pastures yet it makes no
effort to make life better for its people? Nigeria and that
makes her a zoo! Which country on earth will a sitting
president call his ministers noisemakers? Only Nigeria and
that makes her a zoo! Which country on earth will a president
refer to those who didn't vote him as 5% and threatened to
treat them unfairly and those who voted him as 97% and
promised to give them attention ? Only Nigeria and that
makes her a zoo. It takes intelligence to know that zoo is a
slang and representative of a place marked by
underdevelopment, unemployment, youths' restiveness,
confusion, disorder and lawlessness and to that extent,
Nnamdi Kanu is simply stating the truth. Nigeria had an
opportunity to proof him wrong by behaving like a civilized
country with human face and character but it disgraced
itself. The recent unlawful, illegal and wicked arrest and
detention of Nnamdi Kanu without following the due process
of the law further makes him a hero who properly situated
Nigeria and called her Zoological Republic, Zoogeria or simply
Zoo.
